GVB awards Holland Shipyards Group new contract for 6th electric ferry

Holland Shipyards Group is proud to announce that we have once again been awarded a contract by GVB Amsterdam for the construction of a fully electric ferry. This vessel, designated NZK 105, will be the sixth in the successful NZK-series operating across the Noordzeekanaal.

This renewed collaboration follows the earlier delivery of five electric ferries NZK 100 through NZK 104 which have been in service since 2021 and 2022. The fact that GVB has chosen to return to Holland Shipyards Group for an additional vessel is a great compliment to our teams and the performance of the existing fleet.

Today, we marked the start of the build with the keel-laying ceremony for NZK 105 at our yard in Hardinxveld-Giessendam, a symbolic milestone that celebrates both the continuation of this series and the trusted partnership behind it.

Sustainable, proven, and ready for the future

Just like her sister ships, NZK 105 is a fully electric, double-ended ferry designed for efficient, quiet, and emission-free operation. She will contribute directly to reducing emissions on the busy Noordzeekanaal crossings and further support GVB’s transition to clean public transport.

Our thanks go to GVB for their continued confidence and forward-thinking vision, and also to Gemeente Velsen, whose ongoing support helps enable sustainable transport across the canal and beyond.

Built on experience, powered by partnership

With every vessel in the NZK series, we’ve taken steps to improve design, production efficiency, and integration of advanced battery systems. NZK 105 will benefit from this experience and be built with the same care and quality that define our work.

We look forward to delivering another reliable vessel that helps shape the future of public waterborne transport in the Netherlands.
